aces ask you to hurry. The Sahara asks you to stay.

Whether you have two days or four, whether you want to ride a camel at sunset or wake to the silence of the dunes at dawn — there is a journey here with your name on it. Each tour we offer at Trips Nomad is private, personal, and shaped by the desert itself. No groups. No rush. Just you and the sand.

Here are three ways to experience Merzouga.

2-Day Merzouga Desert Tour — The Quick Escape

You leave Marrakech early, cross the High Atlas while the light is still soft, and arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon. The camels are waiting. By sunset you're deep in the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, watching the sky turn peach and violet and indigo.

A night in a Berber camp. A fire. Tea. Stars you cannot count.

In the morning, the sun rises over the dunes like it's performing just for you. Then back to Marrakech — full, quiet, changed.

**Perfect for:** Travellers short on time who still want the real Sahara experience — not a postcard, but the real thing.

4-Day Sahara & Valleys Tour — The Slow Journey

This is the desert at its most generous. Four days gives you time to breathe. You still cross the Atlas and visit Ait Benhaddou, but you also slow down in the Dades Valley, walk through the palm groves of Skoura, and stand between the towering walls of the Todra Gorges.

By the time you reach Merzouga, you've already fallen in love with the road. The camel ride at sunset feels earned. The night at camp feels like home. And the extra morning in the dunes — unhurried, unscheduled — is the kind of gift only the desert can give.

**Perfect for:** Those who want to sink deeper into Morocco. Not just the destination, but the journey between.

Private Custom Tour — Your Morocco, Your Way

Maybe you dream of sleeping under the stars for two nights instead of one. Maybe you want to combine the Sahara with the blue streets of Chefchaouen or the medina of Fes. Maybe you just want to tell someone what you imagine — and have them make it real.

That's what this is. A private itinerary built around your pace, your interests, your time. Ali and the team will craft something that feels like it was always yours.

Perfect for: Couples, families, photographers, or anyone with a specific dream they want to bring to life.

Which one calls your name?

All three tours are private, guided by locals, and begin and end wherever you are. Adventurer’s Guide: Exploring Morocco's Sahara in Winter

Desert sand dunes under a gradient sky at sunset

Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco's most stunning natural wonders — a sea of golden sand dunes rising 150 meters above the edge of the Sahara. But when is the best time to visit? The answer depends on what kind of experience you're looking for.

Spring (March to May) — Best Overall

Spring is the ideal time for a desert tour. Temperatures are warm but not scorching — around 25-30°C during the day and cool at night. The landscape is green from winter rains, and wildflowers bloom along the Atlas Mountains route. This is perfect for camel rides, hiking the dunes, and sleeping under the stars without extreme heat or cold.

Summer (June to August) — For the Heat Lovers

Summer in Erg Chebbi is hot — daytime temperatures can reach 45°C. But the desert comes alive with clear skies, blazing sunsets, and fewer crowds. If you don't mind the heat, this is actually a great time for photography, since the light is dramatic and long summer evenings mean late sunset camel rides. Just bring plenty of water and a hat.

Autumn (September to November) — Second Best Season

Autumn is similar to spring — comfortable temperatures, pleasant evenings, and beautiful golden light. October and November are particularly popular for multi-day tours since the weather is reliable and the skies are clear for stargazing in the desert camp.

Winter (December to February) — For Stargazers

Winter nights in Erg Chebbi can drop below freezing, but daytime is mild and sunny — around 15-20°C. The biggest advantage? The stars. Winter skies are incredibly clear, and the Milky Way is visible from the luxury desert camp. Bring warm clothes for the night and you'll have an unforgettable experience.

Monthly Weather Guide

Month
Day Temp
Night Temp
Best For
March
22°C
8°C
Spring hiking, green landscapes
April
27°C
12°C
Comfortable camel treks
May
31°C
16°C
Long daylight tours
October
28°C
14°C
Golden autumn light
November
22°C
9°C
Stargazing, fewer tourists
December
17°C
3°C
Clear winter skies
Our Recommendation

For the best all-around experience, plan your desert tour for March to May or September to November. 3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech — Your Complete Guide to Erg Chebbi

Understanding the Different Types of Desert Tours

When planning a desert tour in Morocco, it's essential to understand the variety of experiences available. From camel treks to luxury glamping, each tour offers something unique. The first step is to identify what type of experience you desire. Are you looking for an adventurous journey or a relaxing escape?

Camel treks are a traditional way to explore Morocco's vast dunes. These tours typically involve riding camels through the Sahara, offering a glimpse into the life of nomads. For those seeking comfort, luxury tours provide exclusive amenities and plush accommodations in the heart of the desert.

Key Destinations to Consider

Morocco's desert regions are diverse, each offering its own charm. The two most popular destinations are the Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga dunes. Erg Chebbi, known for its stunning orange sands, is easily accessible and offers a variety of tour options. Erg Chigaga, on the other hand, is more remote and ideal for those seeking solitude.

Aside from these famous dunes, consider visiting the Draa Valley or the Merzouga Desert. Each location provides unique landscapes and cultural experiences. Understanding these destinations will help you choose a tour that aligns with your interests and travel goals.

Duration and Itinerary Options

The length of your desert tour can significantly impact your experience. Tours range from single-day excursions to multi-day adventures. A one-day tour might include a quick camel ride and a visit to a desert camp, while longer tours offer deeper exploration and cultural immersion.

Consider what you want to achieve during your tour. If time allows, a multi-day itinerary will enable you to fully appreciate the desert's beauty, including stunning sunrises and starry nights.

Group Size and Tour Type

The size of your tour group can also affect your experience. Smaller groups often provide a more intimate experience, while larger groups may offer a more social atmosphere. Decide whether you prefer a private tour or are open to joining a group.

Additionally, consider whether you want a guided tour, which includes a knowledgeable guide sharing insights about the desert, or a self-guided adventure, which allows for more freedom and flexibility.

Budget Considerations

Your budget will play a crucial role in selecting the right desert tour. Prices can vary significantly based on the level of comfort and exclusivity you desire. Budget tours offer basic amenities, while luxury options feature gourmet meals and high-end accommodations.

Research and compare different tour operators to find a package that suits your financial plan without compromising on the quality of your experience.

Final Tips for Choosing the Right Tour

Before booking, read reviews and seek recommendations from fellow travelers. Ensure the tour operator is reputable and prioritizes safety. Consider the season you plan to visit, as weather conditions can impact your experience.

By taking these factors into account, you'll be well-equipped to choose the perfect desert tour in Morocco, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
